The Department of Vety. Parasitology started in the year 1976. The post of Professor and Head has been decorated by stalwarts in the field of Parasitology like Dr U. V. Shastri, Dr M. A. Ghafoor, Dr. P. D. Deshpande and so on. The department till date produced 50 post-graduates and three Ph.D. as a human resource; all are serving on good posts and contributing the services to the nation. The Department is well known for research and more than 100 original research articles were contributed in the then journal of repute at National level The Indian Veterinary Journal. This is the unique contribution in the field of Veterinary Parasitology made by Dr U V. Shastri. The Dept. has contributed the research in the basic biology of many parasites which was even noted in the Soulsby book.

Up till now this department has contributed on the following important research

  1.  Basic biology of more than 25 parasites of livestock particularly bar and veil structure of Theileria is important landmark noted at global level

  14. The laboratory is well equipped for entomological work
  15. Estimation of Projected economic losses from pests of livestock
  16. This department is rich in the fauna of parasites of veterinary importance and a glorious museum containing more than 200 parasites is a unique in nature. Museum is named after the great scientist Dr. U. V. Shastri.
